The role of the distibutor
When bringing a brand new film into the market place, the distributer has three main concepts to think about...
Who? - What type of people does this specific movie target (Target Audience)
Why? - Then why would this specific audience like this movie. What are the qualities that would make them enjoy it? (U.S.P See Below)
How? And how would you go about promoting it for this specified audience.
The Distibution plan...
Blockbuster movies: Companies such as Disney, Warner Bro's, Sony, etc. Get the movies directly from the production line Whereas, Small independent distribution companies such as Lionsgate, Momentum Pictures and Metrodome attend films festivals to purchase new movie hits, and distribute them out across the world.

U.S.P...
- The hook of the film
- A single sentence that describes the film in its entirity
Who they think will want to see the film? (Audiences SPECIFIC)
The largest age group of cinema go-ers... 15-24 years old Aspirers.
Movie distributors try to attract the largest audience possible when thinking about marketing.
This is because they want to make the biggest profit possible, through cinema ticket sales, and post-release DVD sales.
From this, the marketers try to come up with a campaign that best suits/attracts the Large + Specific audience.
When to release the films...
School Holidays - Family movies (I.e Animation, Comedy) Most popular time to release movies!
October - Horror
February - Romantic
December - Christmas
52 Week business schedule.
